(Technological Singularity, TS: A.I. 특히나 미술씬에서 A.I.
이후의 세계’에 따르면, A.I.
A.I.를 제한하거나, A.I.와 협력하거나, A.I.
A.I.를 제한하거나, A.I.와 협력하거나, A.I.
그래서 작품은 A.I.
‘A.I. 하지만 A.I.

그런 의미에서 이번 ‘The Terminal Study for A.I.
By the early 2030s, we may be able to merge the human neocortex with non-biological intelligence.
The limits of intelligence will disappear, and human cognition will extend beyond the brain itself, reaching into the cloud.

The year 2024 feels increasingly close to what might once have appeared only in science fiction films or novels: the technological singularity (TS)-the point at which the acceleration of artificial intelligence results in the emergence of a superintelligence surpassing the combined intelligence of all humanity. The emergence of OpenAI’s ChatGPT is one clear example. Stable Diffusion and Midjourney are others. In particular, within the contemporary art scene, AI-based text-to-image generation software has become a central topic of discussion.
For some, the future of AI provokes a sense of crisis; for others, it represents a new opportunity. What, then, does the future of AI hold?
According to The Age of AI by Henry Kissinger and Eric Schmidt, as AI advances, humanity will be forced to choose one of three paths: to restrict AI, to cooperate with AI, or to follow AI.
As an artist working today, I have come to the conclusion that the most intelligent response is to cooperate with AI. On this basis, my work begins in collaboration with AI, but deliberately concludes with a physical process outside the digital realm-one that AI, at present, cannot perform.
This series is divided into three parts: portraiture, landscape, and still life. Using the title A.I. Research to depict the oldest genres in the history of painting may initially feel incongruous. Yet in the age of AI and digital media, the deliberate choice to work on canvas-painting’s oldest medium-and to engage with its most traditional genres paradoxically highlights a distinction from contemporary artistic production.
The working process begins with prompts that I write-serving as the titles of the works-which are then entered into Midjourney. I modify the resulting images according to my own sensibilities using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The completed digital drawings are then transferred onto canvas.
In fact, I have been working through a similar process since around 2010, producing paintings on canvas through digital means-though, at that time, the involvement of an AI such as Midjourney was not possible. This continuity eventually compelled me to ask myself a fundamental question: Why do I continue to work with the physical medium of canvas?
Fortunately, in beginning this series, I was able to arrive at an answer.
Yet from its inception, this series has been destined to be finite. As mentioned earlier, once the technological singularity arrives-when AI is capable of physically producing canvases, applying brushstrokes, generating its own prompts, and even articulating the meaning of its works-this series will inevitably lose its significance.
In this sense, The Terminal Study for A.I. Paintings can be understood as a research outcome rooted firmly in the present moment.
