전세계적으로 Cryptocurrency 즉, 암호화폐의 열풍, 논란이 일어나고 있다. 그 누구는 암호화폐는 탈중앙화란 진보적 이념을 가지고 있으며 블록체인 기술은 미래로 가는 4차 혁명 시대의 열쇠가 될 것이라고 하고, 다른 누구는 이것은 도박, 투기이기에 곧 사라질 운명에 놓인 일시적인 현상이라고 이야기한다. 나에게 이런 모든 현상은 매력적으로 다가올 수밖에 없었다.

1. 나는 블록체인의 핵심 장점 중 하나인 암호화, 그리고 그 과정에서 볼 수 있는 수많은 알파벳과 숫자로 이뤄진 텍스트는 The Bridge 시리즈(2017)에서 내가 주장했던 그것(URL은 단순히 다리 역할만 하는 것이 아니라 그 자체로도 미술 작품이 될 수 있다. <https://gyuwonlee.com/the-bridge>)과 닮아 있음을 발견할 수 있었다.

이런 것들의 미묘한 관계와 특성 때문에 나는 암호화폐의 지갑을 미술 작품으로 표현함으로써 이것도 The Bridge 시리즈의 URL처럼 독립적인 작품이 될 수 있 다는 주장을 이어간다.

A global boom and controversy surrounding cryptocurrency is unfolding. Some argue that cryptocurrency embodies the progressive ideal of decentralization, and that blockchain technology will become a key driver of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the future to come. Others insist that it is nothing more than gambling and speculation—a temporary phenomenon destined to disappear. For me, all of these conflicting perspectives were inevitably compelling.

1. One of the core strengths of blockchain technology lies in encryption. In this process, one encounters vast amounts of text composed of letters and numbers. Because of the subtle relationships and characteristics among these elements, I continue my argument by presenting cryptocurrency wallets as works of art—suggesting that, like the URLs in The Bridge series, they too can exist as independent artworks.
